Sarah Shumway - Sarah Shumway is a Senior Editor at Katherine Tegen Books, a hardcover trade imprint of HarperCollins Children’s Books. She studied English Literature and Media Studies at William Smith College and spent summers as a camp counselor and bookseller before she moved to New York to pursue the glamorous lifestyle of a children’s book editor. Sarah is most interested in commercial young adult and middle grade novels, including dystopian, paranormal, humorous, or romantic stories, and relevant, appealing historical fiction. Books on her list include Oh. My. Gods. and Forgive My Fins by Tera Lynn Childs, Gamer Girl by Mari Mancusi, and the upcoming debut Angelfire by Courtney Allison Moulton.  When she’s not at work or reading, Sarah sings in a chorus, crafts, sews, and trolls Etsy.com for one-of-a-kind treasures. Julie Ham - Julie is the editorial assistant at Charlesbridge. Before completing an M.A. in Children’s Literature from Simmons College, she interned with the Houghton Mifflin Children’s Book Department and served as a teacher’s assistant to both nonfiction and fiction creative writing courses at Simmons. Carmen Tafolla - Carmen Tafolla is a widely anthologized, award-winning Mexican American poet and author.  In January, 2010, Dr. Carmen Tafolla became the first Latina to win the Charlotte Zolotow Award for Best Children's Picture Book for What Can You DO with a Paleta? (Tricycle Press). It was also selected for the Tejas Star Reading List and only days later, announced as the 2010 winner of the Tomás Rivera Mexican-American Book Award for Children's books.  Her latest book, Fiesta Babies (Tricycle Press) was released earlier this year.  Dr. Carmen Tafolla is the author of numerous award-winning books of poetry, nonfiction works, short stories, and books for children. Tafolla has held numerous faculty and administrative positions at universities throughout the Southwest, including Associate Professor of Women’s Studies at California State University Fresno and Special Assistant to the President for Cultural Diversity Programming at Northern Arizona University. www.carmentafolla.com

Kristi Holl - Kristi Holl is an award-winning author of 34 books for children, one nonfiction book for writers, and over 150 stories and articles for children and adults, as well as conference speaker and web editor. Her stories and articles have appeared in Jack and Jill, Child Life, Hi-Call, Your Life & Health, Touch, The Writer, Children's Writer, and the SCBWI Bulletin, among others. Kathleen Muldoon - Called a “charming picture book” by reviewers at the Intermediate Mailbox, Kathleen Muldoon’s picture book, Princess Pooh (Albert Whitman & Company, 1989), has long been recommended reading for those working with disabled persons. Ms. Muldoon sometimes introduces characters with disabilities into her children’s fiction, as she did in her historical fiction book, Island of Hope (Perfection Learning Corporation/PLC, 2002), and her middle-grade novel, Checkmate! (PLC, 2005). She also writes fiction and nonfiction chapter books for children who have difficulty reading at grade level. Her contributions in this area include Presidential Pet Tails (PLC, 2002) and a five-book Orphan Train series (PLC, 2003). In 2005, she authored Little Book of Saints (volumes 1 and 2) for Pauline Books & Media.

Ms. Muldoon’s short stories and articles have also appeared in such magazines as Hopscotch, Cricket, AppleSeeds, Cobblestone, and Faces, as well as in anthologies such as Chicken Soup for the Pre-Teen Soul and Chocolate for a Teen’s Heart. Currently she is a monthly columnist for Action magazine, for which she created the column “Kids in Action.”  Kathleen is also an instructor for the Institute of Children’s Literature.

Heather Powers - As an award-winning illustrator, Heather has illustrated for the education, trade and magazine markets.  She has won numerous portfolio awards including the SCBWI Tomie dePaola Portfolio Award in New York.  Her first picture book, Conor's Gift published by Yoewon Media is available in Korea and China. www.humblearts.com

Art & Lisa Avila, Raining Popcorn Media - Art has been a creative director, illustrator, and animator for over 20 years and specializes in the development of projects for children. He has been involved with educational publishing for over 10 years and has contributed to the development of children's websites, online education, books, newsletters, software, toys and board games. Clients include McGraw-Hill, Capstone Press, Zowie Entertainment, Hasbro, PCI Educational Publishing, Electronic Arts and a variety of other publishers of children's entertainment.
