Conference Critiques

Faculty Critique Sessions

A limited number of one on one critiques with our faculty are available.  Since we have a limited number of spaces, they are reserved for SCBWI members only.

We can't guarantee which faculty member you will meet with. All of our faculty are well qualified to give you a professional critique.

MANUSCRIPT AND FIRST PAGE SUBMISSIONS FOR EDITORS’ DAY DUE JULY 17TH.

Please note: Submitting a manuscript for critique is separate from submitting a First Page submission. A person can submit a critique, only to First Pages session, or to both.

Manuscript critiques

The cost of a manuscript critique is $35.00. You will receive submission details with your conference confirmation email. Manuscripts must be submitted via email by July 17th.

Submit one picture book manuscript (text only) OR the first 10 pages of a longer work with a two paragraph synopsis of your story.  Picture books should be under 1200 words. Submissions should be in manuscript style with one inch margins and double spacing. Please include a cover page with your contact information.

The manuscript will be returned with comments during a 15 minute session with the editor or faculty who critiqued it.

Art critiques

Submit 5 JPEG samples of artwork or a link to your website prior to the conference. On the day of the conference you will bring your portfolio to be included in your critique session. All artwork should be COPIES ONLY.

First Pages Submissions

A first page or synopsis submission is separate from submitting a manuscript for critique; i.e., one does not need to submit a manuscript for critique in order to submit a first page or synopsis.

The purpose is to get an editor’s “first impression”…which as we know is extremely important. There will be a random drawing of at least 10 first pages or synopses during an afternoon session in which they will be read aloud (with no identifiers) to both audience and a panel of editors. No one will know who submitted the first page or synopsis. Individuals on the panel will respond with their “first impressions”, enabling everyone in the audience to benefit from their observations.

First page or synopsis submissions have no cost, can be no more than 200 words with one inch margins and double spacing. They should be submitted via email no later than July 17th.  Do not include your contact information on your submission.  You will receive submission details with your conference confirmation email.

Last day to submit Critiques and First Page/Synosis is July 17th, we will not accept submissions after this date.  Please send them in ASAP!
