What is the B.I.C. Club?

The B.I.C. club is our new monthly critique meeting replacing our old meeting format.  B.I.C. stands for "butt in chair" and a commitment to work as a writer/illustrator.

How do I join?
•Define a goal and write a contract to yourself.
•Commit to work everyday for at least 15 minutes on your children’s book goals.
•Commit to attend meetings or pair up with a critique partner on a monthly basis.

Print out this B.I.C. pledge card and contract form to help stay on track: click here.

Monthly Meetings:

Each month the B.I.C. Club will meet on the 3rd Saturday from 10-12pm at the University of the Incarnate Word.  We will break off into small groups of 4-5 according to our genre.  The meetings are open to the public.

What to bring:

Authors bring up to 5 pages of your manuscript, double-spaced.  Please bring 4-5 copies so that the participants in your group can make notes.

Illustrators bring a dummy book, portfolio or sketches that you'd like to have critiqued.  Illustrators you can bring your portfolio once for a critique, after that please bring work in progress.

Some Encouragement:

Writers write and illustrators illustrate!  Don't let excuses keep you from your dreams.  Moving forward slowly is still moving forward.   It's my desire that our chapter is an active group of writers and illustrators producing work, submitting and celebrating their publishing successes.

Use your B.I.C. time for creating only!  Submitting, sending promotional materials, cleaning your studio, answering emails, these are important but not B.I.C. activities.

For those further along in your career, you may want to pair up with one or two members to meet bi-weekly.
